For the third consecutive year, South Science and Technology Magnet School has been named a High Progress School of Honor by the Ohio Department of Education.

The designation is based on the 2018-19 Ohio School Report Card. South is among 71 schools across the state to receive the designation. It is one of only three to receive it three years in a row.

South earned an overall B on the report card. It earned a B in K-3 Literacy and an A/100 percent in the Gap Closing measure.

The criteria is below:

  • Be a Title I recipient or Title I-eligible school and serve 40 percent or more economically disadvantaged students.
  • Show gains on its combined reading and math proficiency rate in each of the past five years that meet or exceed the 90th percentile of all statewide gains (subject results are combined and aggregated for grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10).
  • If a high school, have combined graduation rate of 93 percent or higher over the last five years.
  • If applicable, the school must earn an A or B on the overall Value Added measure on the 2019 Report Card.
  • Have a Gap Closing grade of A, B or C for the 2018-2019 school year.
