Lima Senior High School Senior Peter Fike was honored recently by Mayor David Berger for his work at Faurot Park for his Eagle Scout project.

Fike rehabilitated a trail staircase on the northeast side of the park that allows access to the park for local neighborhoods. The staircase had fallen into despair and decay.

With the help of fellow Boy Scouts and other volunteers, Fike removed and replaced more than 30 stairs made of railroad tires and installed 80 feet of sturdy railing.

As part of the project, Fike had to develop plans for the job and raise funds to pay for it.

An Eagle Scout project is one of the requirements a Boy Scout is required to fulfill in order to attain the rank of Eagle Scout.

Fike, who is the son of John and Erin Fike, is in Lima Senior’s Interactive Multimedia Program.
