Lima Senior High School students who have committed to higher education or the military recently participated in the school’s Academic Signing.

This is the fourth year of the event, with 110 students participating this year. This is more than in past years.

The event is designed to celebrate students headed to college and the military just as athletes hold special ceremonies when they sign their National Letters of Intent to play at the college level.

Students’ names are read, along with the schools they will attend, and then they sign ceremonial certificates together. Students also sign a larger “Academic Signing” poster that will be framed and hung in the school.

Students wear T-shirts, hats and other gear associated with their future school. Parents have also been invited to attend the ceremony.

The Academic Signing event is to recognize the hard work and dedication put in by our college-bound seniors as well as to hold them up as examples to underclassmen. The hope is that the signing will highlight the importance of college and motivate underclassmen to participate in future ceremonies.

Students chose to participate in the signing and had to submit their college information to the school to take part.
