Name: Mitchell Monfort
Position/School: Liberty 5th grade math and science teacher/varsity soccer coach
When were you hired by the Lima City Schools: 2008
What do you love about your job: Working with kids.
What would students be surprised to know about you: I listen to some of the same music they listen to. Of course older rap is better than some of the current rap.
Biggest pet peeve: When someone quits when things get hard. Work through the problem and find the solution.
Did you ever get in trouble in school? If so, what for: Yes. Skipping school, talking back to teachers, and not following directions.
What would you have done differently in high school: Dedicated myself to school and sports. Spend more time asking questions and learning why things work instead of just trying to get the correct answer.
Best soccer-playing memory: Scoring winning goal against Van Wert in the last 10 seconds of the game.
What is your favorite soccer team: I love good soccer (movement off the ball and as a team). I don’t truly have a designated favorite team.
What food do you refuse to eat: Olives
Best advice anyone ever gave you: Go big or go home. I believe in taking risks to challenge yourself.
Worse advice anyone ever gave you: It must have been too bad to remember.
Do you sing in the shower? If so, what do you sing: Not a chance. Singing is not a strength of mine. I listen to Pandora in the shower.
How long have you been telling people you are “living the dream” and where did this come from: 14 years, I spent a year in the Middle East and it was miserable. I told myself every day that my goal was to live the dream once I made it home. Attitude is everything and it allows you to be successful.
