The Lima Senior High School Spartan Marching Pride was invited to march and play in the Nov. 11 New York City Veterans Day Parade.
The band, directed by Hannah Snyder, learned it had been accepted to participate in the parade last spring and members have been raising money for the trip ever since.
Fifty-three LSH band members made the trip.
The parade has been observed since 1919 and features 20,000 participants from 30 states. It is presented by the United War Veterans Council. The Parade route moves up 5th Avenue and passes a number of famous landmarks, including the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Plaza and St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
The Spartan Marching Pride also joined other high school bands in the parade at the Band of Pride Tribute on Nov. 12. All the bands gather in Times Square for the performance.
This is the first time Lima Senior has participated in these events. Students also got some time to see NYC, including eating at the Hard Rock Café and taking a Dinner Dance Cruis3 on the Hudson River.
