A parent leadership program started last school year will soon kick off again this year.

The next eight-week session of Leaders for Spartan Success will begin the week Feb. 16. Topics that will be addressed include positive parenting, creating confident children, communication, discipline practices, what children and teens need to succeed, and parents engaging in academic success.

All sessions will be held at Heritage Elementary School. All classes are Tuesdays. There are two times to choose from: 1 to 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Parents need to attend all eight sessions to graduate from the program.

Any parent in the Lima City Schools is welcome to attend whichever site best works for them. To sign up for the program, contact Parent Liaison Shelly Williams at 419-996-3615 or mwilliams3@limacityschools.org.

Nearly 25 parents took part in the new program and attended sessions last school year. The program stemmed from Parenting Partners’ training 35 staff and parents received early in the school year. The training was conducted by David Porter, of Family Leadership Inc., headquartered in California.

Workshop participants learned and practiced how to present to others and then conducted the parent sessions. The sessions are aimed to build parenting skills, show parents how to successfully partner with schools and to create a sustainable team of positive parent leaders.
