Lima Senior High School’s first-even Dance Marathon proved a huge success, with the event raising $3,724.01 for the Children’s Miracle Network.

“Red Sea for Mercy” had students dancing and standing in the school gymnasium for 12 hours straight. Students had to raise money to participate. Many raised much more than needed to participate.

The school’s Key Club, led by Adviser Meredith Seech, organized the event, but students throughout the school participated.

“We are so proud of our students,” Superintendent Jill Ackerman said. “This was a massive undertaking for them and their adviser, and they pulled it off tremendously. We have big hearts at the Lima City Schools and this event certainly showed it.”

The marathon was also billed as a community event. People came out to support the participants, take part in Easter and other activities and purchase items through a silent auction and bake sale.

A special part of the day was the closing ceremony. It featured guest speakers and local families who benefit from the Children’s Miracle Network.

The hope is that the marathon will become an annual event and continue to grow each year.
