The student-operated Spartan Inn is up and running, with customers already enjoying “Italian days,” a baked potato bar, soup, salad and much more.

The  restaurant is open from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Box lunches are available for purchase any school day. The Spartan Inn, located in the northwest wing of Lima Senior High School, has a separate entrance and parking area.

The restaurant offers buffet dining. A soup and salad bar can be purchased for $5 and includes a drink. The cost is $4 to take it to go. The full buffet cost $6 and includes a drink and dessert. The buffet includes soup and salad and different entrees throughout the school year.

Updates on what is on the menu each Tuesday and Thursday can be found on the district’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

Instructor Misty Lee hopes to increase the number of box lunches, meat and vegetable trays and salads prepared by students this year. She encourages local businesses and organizations to call 419-996-3521 for more information about ordering meals.

The Spartan Inn, which is part of the school’s hospitality and food service management program, has already hosted several events this year, including the Ohio School Boards Association’s legislative breakfast.

The restaurant also provided breakfast and lunch for this year’s Lima City Schools Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame inductees, as well as handled dessert for the induction dinner.

The Spartan Inn isn’t the only student-run business at Lima Senior

The auto technology student-run garage is also open for business. Students, led by instructor Bruce Rellinger, can do light maintenance services including brakes, suspensions, alignments, tire rotation and patching, heating and air conditioning and oil changes.

Customers pay for parts and 15 percent of what they would pay somewhere else for labor. The garage is open from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 3 p.m. each school day. Customers need an appointment and cannot wait on their vehicles while work is getting done. Call 419-996-3072 for an appointment.

The school’s graphics communications students also do work for the community. Students design and print items like brochures, booklets and signs. Customers pay for materials and 15 percent of what they would pay elsewhere.  Call 419-996-3045.
